About Mustang

Mustang is a former Kingdom that now lies in the northern part of Nepal, bordering Tibet. Situated in the rain shadow of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, Mustang has a unique landscape — arid, canyon-carved terrain that resembles the Tibetan plateau. It is divided into Lower Mustang (open to all visitors) and Upper Mustang (restricted area, requiring special permit).

The district is deeply influenced by Tibetan Buddhist culture, with ancient monasteries, cave dwellings, chortens, and prayer walls dotting the landscape. The walled medieval city of Lo Manthang in Upper Mustang is one of the best-preserved Himalayan settlements in the world.

Muktinath Temple is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites for both Hindus and Buddhists, located at 3,710m and accessible via Jomsom. The Tatopani hot springs and the rugged trails make Mustang a unique adventure destination.
